Proposed Adventure for July 2022
We are looking for bike adventurers who would like to join a slightly elite group to take on the Canning Stock Route in July 2022. We expect that prospective participants will train and have a good level of fitness and be accustomed to riding fatbikes and adjusting tyre pressure etc. Depending on who joins and their abilities and expectations, the trip will be either 3 weeks or 4 weeks. We realise that its difficult for many to get 4 weeks off work and possibly away from family, so we are putting it out there and will look for a consensus. Non-riding partners will also be welcome at a reduced rate in expectations of help and support to the riders. This will be an Expedition so mucking in and group discussion are welcomed.
We would probably pick up clients at Kununurra airport and drop off at Geraldton or Newman.
Greg has ridden the Canning solo unsupported before, so has fairly good knowledge and is happy to chat.
We’re pretty excited about seeing the Canning again and look forward to hearing from anyone with this ambition.
The Canning Stock Route is the longest historic stock route in the world and one can only wonder at the incredible hardiness of the early pioneers who used this route to open up trade from the rich grazing country of the North West to the burgeoning markets of the gold fields to the south in the early 1900’s. It stretches nearly 2000 kms through three deserts and over some 900 sand dunes, and is called the loneliest 4WD track in the world. It has only been ridden by a handful of people, so if you are looking for an adventure unique in the world, get in touch!
The bonus to riding this iconic desert stock route is the fascinating colourful history at every turn and the stunning scenery from dune country to red rock gorges and rugged desert ranges. As a Stock Route, it’s all about water – and the stories behind the early surveys, well sinking and searching for native water holes bring to life an era when real adventure was just a part of life in the outback.
An undertaking of this magnitude requires careful planning and long lead time, so we are planning a 3-4 week Canning Stock Route expedition for July 2022 and are now taking expressions of interest.
